Crimes Against Women on the Rise in Telangana: NCRB

Hyderabad (Same Day): Telangana has witnessed a steady rise in crimes against women, according to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). In 2023, a total of 23,678 cases related to crimes against women were registered in the State, compared to 22,066 cases in 2022 and 20,865 cases in 2021. The NCRB report highlights a year-on-year increase in such offences, raising concerns over women’s safety. Overall crimes registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in Telangana also showed an upward trend. While 1,56,737 IPC cases were filed in 2023, the number stood at 1,51,849 in 2022. Hyderabad city too reflected this surge. The NCRB recorded 21,774 IPC cases in 2023, against 20,668 in 2022, marking a significant jump. Experts have expressed concern over the rising numbers, stressing the need for stronger preventive measures, effective policing, and community engagement to ensure women’s safety across the State.

China: Former Minister Sentenced to Death in ₹334-Crore Bribery Case

Hyderabad (Same Day online): In a significant move underscoring China’s stringent anti-corruption drive, a former Cabinet minister, Tang Renjian, has been sentenced to death for accepting bribes worth over ₹334 crore. A court in Jilin Province pronounced the verdict, stating that Tang had abused his position to accumulate vast illicit wealth. The judgment also imposed a lifetime ban on his political activities. In addition to the capital punishment, the court ordered the confiscation of all his personal assets. The bribe money has been directed to be seized and transferred to the state treasury. The ruling comes amid President Xi Jinping’s continuing campaign against corruption, which has already brought down several senior party and government officials in recent years.

Retired Police Officer Ahmed Nawaz Khan Passes Away

Hyderabad (Same Day): Mr. Ahmed Nawaz Khan, retired Circle Inspector of Police Intelligence and noted Urdu shorthand reporter, passed away on Wednesday at his residence in Lal Bagh, Amberpet. He was the son of the late Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Khan. Mr. Khan had also served as President of the Managing Committee of Masjid Taj Ibrahim, Tirumala Nagar, Amberpet. Known for his expertise in departmental “Law” classes for Sub-Inspectors, he was frequently invited by the government to deliver lectures in Anantapur, Karimnagar, Tirupati and other centres. Hydraa Commissioner warns of action against encroachments along nalas

Hyderabad (Same Day): Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Friday warned that strict action would soon be taken to clear encroachments along the city’s stormwater drains (nalas). The Commissioner said several illegal structures had already been identified, which were obstructing the free flow of rainwater. He observed that unchecked constructions on nalas had become a major cause of flooding in several areas during the monsoon. Mr. Ranganath emphasised that only those structures posing an immediate obstruction to water flow would be targeted in the initial phase. “The government will also work out relief measures to ensure that citizens are not unduly inconvenienced,” he assured. Special teams have completed survey operations in multiple locations, and clearance drives are expected to begin shortly, the Commissioner added.

Telangana unveils new welfare schemes for minorities

Minister for SC, ST and Minority Welfare, Adluri Laxman Kumar, launched the Indiramma Minority Mahila Yojana and Revanthanna Ka Sahara – For the Miskeens. The Indiramma Minority Mahila Yojana will provide financial assistance of ₹50,000 to widows, divorcees, orphans, and unmarried women from minority communities to start small businesses. Meanwhile, the Revanthanna Ka Sahara scheme will extend mopeds with a grant of up to ₹1 lakh for members of the Fakir and Dudekula communities. An outlay of ₹30 crore has been earmarked for these schemes, reflecting Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s emphasis on inclusive growth and minority welfare. Registrations will be open from September 19 to October 6, 2025, and applications can be submitted through the official portal: tgobmms.cgg.gov.in.

Telangana Youth Killed in Police Firing in California

Hyderabad (Same Day): A 32-year-old youth from Mahabubnagar district, Telangana, was shot dead by police in California, United States, earlier this month following a reported altercation with his roommates. The deceased, identified as Nizamuddin, had moved to the US in 2016 to pursue a Master’s degree but had been living with friends in California after being unable to secure employment. According to local police, officers responded to an emergency call on September 3 regarding a dispute among roommates. Preliminary reports stated that Nizamuddin allegedly attacked one of his roommates with a knife. In an attempt to bring the situation under control, police opened fire, causing severe injuries. He later succumbed. The incident, which remained unreported for several days, surfaced only recently, sending shockwaves among his family members in Mahabubnagar. Efforts are underway to repatriate the mortal remains to India.

Narsingi Municipal Officer Caught Accepting Bribe

Hyderabad (Same Day): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday apprehended Narsingi Municipal Town Planning Officer Maniharikha while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹4 lakh at the municipal office. According to officials, she had reportedly demanded ₹10 lakh from a resident, Vinod of Manchirevula, for clearing Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) proceedings related to his plot. Acting on a complaint, the ACB laid a trap and caught her while receiving part of the demanded amount. A team led by ACB DSP Sridhar conducted searches at the municipal office following the arrest. Further investigation is underway.

Russia announces breakthrough cancer vaccine

He belonged to the well-known Quadri family of Hyderabad and was the brother of Syed Shah Hafeez-Ul-Haq Quadri. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. Deadline Extended for Financial Assistance Applications for Urdu Newspapers and Magazines

Hyderabad (Same Day): The Telangana Urdu Academy has extended the deadline for submission of applications under the annual financial assistance scheme for small Urdu newspapers and magazines for the year 2025-26. According to a press release issued by Mr. Taher Bin Hamdan, Chairman of the Telangana Urdu Academy, the new deadline for submitting applications is September 12, 2025 instead of August 31st. Eligible publishers are required to submit their applications along with the following documents: RNI registration, bank account details with IFSC code, self-attested copies of bank passbook, Aadhaar card, PAN card, three recent issues of the publication, and three copies of an advance receipt bill amounting to ₹15,000.
