Hydraa Commissioner warns of action against encroachments along nalas

Hyderabad (Same Day):
Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Friday warned that strict action would soon be taken to clear encroachments along the city’s stormwater drains (nalas).

The Commissioner said several illegal structures had already been identified, which were obstructing the free flow of rainwater. He observed that unchecked constructions on nalas had become a major cause of flooding in several areas during the monsoon.

Mr. Ranganath emphasised that only those structures posing an immediate obstruction to water flow would be targeted in the initial phase. “The government will also work out relief measures to ensure that citizens are not unduly inconvenienced,” he assured.

Special teams have completed survey operations in multiple locations, and clearance drives are expected to begin shortly, the Commissioner added.
