Crimes Against Women on the Rise in Telangana: NCRB

Hyderabad (Same Day): Telangana has witnessed a steady rise in crimes against women, according to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

In 2023, a total of 23,678 cases related to crimes against women were registered in the State, compared to 22,066 cases in 2022 and 20,865 cases in 2021. The NCRB report highlights a year-on-year increase in such offences, raising concerns over women’s safety.

Overall crimes registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in Telangana also showed an upward trend. While 1,56,737 IPC cases were filed in 2023, the number stood at 1,51,849 in 2022.

Hyderabad city too reflected this surge. The NCRB recorded 21,774 IPC cases in 2023, against 20,668 in 2022, marking a significant jump.

Experts have expressed concern over the rising numbers, stressing the need for stronger preventive measures, effective policing, and community engagement to ensure women’s safety across the State.
