Call for intensified struggle for BC reservations
Mahabubabad (Same Day): The Backward Classes (BC) community must be prepared for a political struggle to secure 42 per cent reservations, said Jajula Srinivas Goud, national president of the BC Welfare Association. He announced that a massive “BC Political Battle Sabha” with the participation of one lakh people will be organised at Bhongir soon after Dasara to demonstrate the political strength of the community.
Mr. Srinivas Goud paid floral tributes to Telangana’s iconic fighter Chakali Ailamma on her death anniversary at Thorrur division on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters, he alleged that political parties were only paying lip service to the BC reservation Bill while failing to extend genuine support.
While Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and upper castes enjoy reservations proportionate to their population, the BCs, who constitute nearly 60 per cent of the population, are still denied at least 42 per cent reservations, he pointed out. He demanded that the BJP-led Union government bring legislation in Parliament without delay and called on the INDIA bloc to press for its passage.
He criticised BJP leaders from Telangana for not even submitting a memorandum to the Centre on the issue, terming it a deliberate neglect of BC rights. “If the Centre fails to implement BC reservations before Dasara, we will intensify our agitation and launch a massive public rally in Bhongir with lakhs of participants,” he warned.
The meeting was attended by BC Welfare Association State president Vairi Ravikrishna, Kakatiya University professor Sangini Malleswar, State general secretary Pedagani Somayya, district president Gundagani Venu, district general secretary Gattu Prabhakar, youth president Basanaboyina Murali Yadav, and several other leaders.
