Justice Sudharshan Reddy Receives Warm Reception in Hyderabad


Hyderabad (Same Day): Justice Sudharshan Reddy, the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Congress-led INDIA bloc, was accorded a warm welcome on Monday at the Taj Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad. The reception was hosted by Advisor to the Telangana Government, Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabbir, in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Cabinet Ministers, and senior Congress leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shabbir recalled Justice Reddy’s contribution to the cause of social justice during his tenure as a judge. He noted that in 2004, Justice Reddy was the first to uphold the provision of reservations for socially and educationally backward sections among Muslims in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.

“It was in his direction that the then Congress government adjusted the Muslim quota from 5% to 4% to remain within the Supreme Court-mandated ceiling on reservations,” Mr. Shabbir said.

Describing Justice Reddy’s nomination as a matter of pride, he said the former judge’s elevation to the Vice-Presidency would reflect the values of inclusivity and constitutional propriety.

Justice Sudharshan Reddy, a former judge of the Supreme Court, is known for his jurisprudence on civil liberties and social equity.
