China: Former Minister Sentenced to Death in ₹334-Crore Bribery Case

Hyderabad (Same Day online):
In a significant move underscoring China’s stringent anti-corruption drive, a former Cabinet minister, Tang Renjian, has been sentenced to death for accepting bribes worth over ₹334 crore.

A court in Jilin Province pronounced the verdict, stating that Tang had abused his position to accumulate vast illicit wealth. The judgment also imposed a lifetime ban on his political activities.

In addition to the capital punishment, the court ordered the confiscation of all his personal assets. The bribe money has been directed to be seized and transferred to the state treasury.

The ruling comes amid President Xi Jinping’s continuing campaign against corruption, which has already brought down several senior party and government officials in recent years.
