Release pending overseas scholarship dues, urges BC Students’ Association

Hyderabad (Same Day):
The National President of the BC Students’ Association, Thatikonda Vikram Goud, on Friday urged the Telangana government to immediately clear the pending dues under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Overseas Vidya Scheme, stating that delays in fee reimbursement and stipend payments have pushed several students studying abroad into severe financial distress.

In a statement issued here, Mr. Goud said many meritorious students from the State, who had secured admissions in foreign universities under the scheme, were struggling to pay tuition fees due to prolonged delays in the release of funds. Some students, he added, were facing academic pressure and uncertainty as universities had reportedly issued fee reminders.

He further claimed that pending scholarships and fee reimbursement arrears in the State had accumulated to over ₹9,000 crore, affecting students enrolled in both overseas and domestic institutions. Alleging that certain private colleges were withholding hall tickets from economically disadvantaged students over unpaid dues, he described the situation as “deeply distressing”.

The BC Students’ Association demanded that the government:

* Immediately release all pending fee reimbursement and stipend amounts;

* Clear arrears under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Overseas Scholarship scheme on priority;

* Establish a fixed timeline to prevent accumulation of dues in future;

* Set up a dedicated help desk to address student grievances;

* Introduce an emergency advance assistance mechanism for students studying abroad; and

* Take action against private colleges that deny hall tickets to students over pending reimbursements.

Mr. Goud said students had placed their trust in the government while pursuing higher education overseas and were now facing avoidable hardships due to delays in financial support. He urged the authorities to treat the issue as a special case and take an immediate and positive decision to safeguard students’ academic futures.

Leaders including Kanakala Shyamkumar, national president of the BC Youth Association; Jajula Lingaiah, State secretary of the BC Welfare Association; Tandur Srinivas, working president of the BC Youth Association; Godugu Mahesh, State president of the Students’ Association; Indram Rajaka, State general secretary of the BC Students’ Association; and Bolepalli Swami Goud, president of the Students’ JAC, were present.
