Rahul Gandhi challenges Prime Minister to revoke India–U.S. agreement

New Delhi (Same Day):
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday mounted a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, challenging him to revoke the agreement entered into between India and the United States.

Addressing party workers, Mr. Gandhi said the Prime Minister did not have the “courage” to annul the pact and dared him to do so if he believed it was in the national interest. “If you have the conviction, cancel the agreement with the United States and show the country. You will not do it,” he said.

The Congress leader further alleged that external pressures were constraining the Prime Minister’s actions. Referring to U.S. President Donald Trump, Mr. Gandhi claimed that international pressure was influencing the government’s decisions. He also made references to controversies involving businessman Gautam Adani, asserting that pending issues were weighing on the government.

Mr. Gandhi contended that the agreement with the United States required greater transparency and called upon the Centre to place its full details in the public domain. “The people of India have a right to know the terms and whether they safeguard national interests,” he said.

There was no immediate response from the government or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to the remarks. The comments are expected to intensify political exchanges between the ruling party and the Opposition in the coming days.
