Special Drive Launched Against Banned Chinese Manja in Kukatpally Zone

Hyderabad (Same Day):
The Kukatpally Zone Police have launched a special enforcement drive against the sale and use of banned Chinese manja (synthetic or nylon glass-coated kite thread), citing serious risks to public safety, motorists and birds.

As part of the drive, special teams were constituted across all seven police station limits in the zone — Balanagar, Allapur, Miyapur, Madhapur, Raidurgam, KPHB and Kukatpally. Acting on specific inputs, police conducted surprise inspections and raids at kite shops and other vendors suspected of selling the prohibited material.

During the operation, 45 shops were raided and five cases were registered against shopkeepers found selling banned manja. Of these, three cases were booked at Kukatpally Police Station, while one case each was registered at Allapur and Madhapur police stations.

In addition to enforcement, the police also undertook extensive public awareness initiatives. A total of 18 awareness programmes were conducted across the zone to sensitise citizens about the dangers associated with Chinese manja and the legal consequences of its use. Awareness drives were held at Pipeline Road and Madeenaguda under Miyapur police station limits, Shanthi Nagar in Kukatpally limits, and the IDPL area in Balanagar limits.

Police personnel also removed hazardous manja found hanging from trees, electric poles and residential buildings to prevent accidents and injuries.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kukatpally Zone, Rithiraj, IPS, reiterated that the manufacture, sale, storage and use of Chinese manja is a punishable offence under the law. He appealed to citizens to cooperate with the police and report any information regarding the sale or use of banned manja to the nearest police station or Dial 100.

The police said the special drive would continue in the coming days to ensure strict compliance and to safeguard lives during the kite-flying season.
