Police Assure No Targeting in Information Collection from Religious Institutions
Siddipet (Same Day): Concerns raised over the collection of information from mosques and madrasas by the Special Branch (SB) police were addressed following a meeting between a delegation of the Jamiat Ulama, Siddipet district, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) K. Kushalkar on Wednesday.
The delegation, led by district president Mufti Abdul Salam Qasmi, met the DCP to convey apprehensions among mosque and madrasa managements regarding the collection of details through a prescribed proforma by the Special Branch. The exercise, they said, had led to anxiety and fear, particularly in rural areas.
Mufti Abdul Salam Qasmi stated that the delegation acted on the directions of Jamiat Ulama Telangana general secretary Hafiz Peer Khaliq Sabir. The representatives informed the police that SB personnel were approaching religious institutions across various mandals and seeking information through questionnaires, which was being viewed with suspicion by local communities.
Responding to the concerns, Mr. Kushalkar said he had taken the matter seriously and immediately held discussions with the concerned Circle Inspector of the Special Branch. He clarified that the information-gathering exercise was a routine and formal process initiated as part of intelligence inputs, aimed solely at strengthening police preparedness and security arrangements, and not at targeting any particular community.
The DCP assured that mosque and madrasa authorities were required to share only such information as was readily available to them, and that there was no pressure to furnish details beyond their knowledge. He further clarified that only basic information relating to students and administration of madrasas may be provided, and that there was no requirement to disclose financial details.
Both the DCP and the Special Branch CI reiterated that the exercise was being carried out uniformly across all religious institutions, including temples and churches. They appealed to the management of masjids and madrasas not to panic or feel apprehensive over the process.
For further clarification, community members were advised to contact the helpline numbers: 9908160926, 9989959728, 9052209731 and 9676444844.
