Broken Rear Glass, RTC-Leased Bus Continues to Ply, Raising Safety Concerns

Narsaraopet (Same Day):
Serious concerns over commuter safety have surfaced after an APSRTC bus with a broken rear windshield was found operating on the Narsaraopet–Sattenapalli route in Guntur district.

The bus, bearing registration number AP07 TJ 0519, is a private vehicle taken on lease by the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation and attached to the Sattenapalli RTC depot. Despite the visibly damaged rear glass, the bus has reportedly been running regular services, drawing sharp criticism from passengers and the public.

Commuters alleged that allowing a bus in such condition to ply reflects grave negligence on the part of the authorities. They said a broken rear windshield poses a serious risk, especially during high-speed travel and night operations, and questioned the effectiveness of safety inspections conducted by the depot.

Passengers also claimed that officials were aware of the damage but failed to act, prompting accusations that public safety was being compromised. The incident has once again highlighted the issue of monitoring and maintenance of leased buses operating under the RTC banner.

Transport observers stressed that strict adherence to safety norms is essential, irrespective of whether buses are owned by the RTC or taken on lease. They urged the authorities to immediately withdraw the damaged vehicle from service and conduct thorough inspections of all leased buses to prevent such lapses.
