“I am in the fray for 2029”: K. Kavitha speaks on launching a new political party and beyond
Hyderabad (Same Day): Telangana Jagruti president K. Kavitha on Tuesday indicated that she was preparing for a larger political role, stating that she would be “in the fray for 2029”, even as she stopped short of formally announcing the launch of a new political party.
Addressing a press interaction in Hyderabad, Ms. Kavitha said her political journey was entering a “decisive phase”, driven by what she described as the need for an alternative platform rooted in social justice, federalism and women’s empowerment. “I am in the fray for 2029. The nature of that role and the organisational form it will take will be made clear at the appropriate time,” she said.
Ms. Kavitha, who heads Telangana Jagruti, a socio-cultural organisation that has been active on issues such as women’s rights, social equity and Telangana identity, said there was a growing demand from various sections of society for a new political force that would challenge “both the centralisation of power at the national level and the erosion of democratic values”.
Without naming any party, she remarked that existing political formations were increasingly disconnected from grassroots concerns. “People are looking for a politics that listens, consults and delivers, rather than one that is driven by personalities or power equations,” she said.
On speculation about a new political party, Ms. Kavitha said discussions were underway with like-minded individuals, activists and intellectuals. “Whether it takes the shape of a political party or a broader movement will depend on collective consultations. My focus at present is to build a strong ideological base,” she added.
Ms. Kavitha also underlined that women would be central to her political vision. “Despite constitutional guarantees, women continue to be under-represented in legislatures and decision-making bodies. Any future political platform I am associated with will ensure substantive representation for women,” she said.
Responding to questions on her immediate plans, she said Telangana Jagruti would intensify its outreach programmes across districts, holding public meetings and policy dialogues over the next few months. These engagements, she said, would shape the roadmap for the years ahead.
Ms. Kavitha maintained that her political aspirations were not about personal ambition alone. “This is about creating space for a new kind of politics. 2029 may seem far away, but meaningful political change requires long-term preparation,” she said.
Political observers see her remarks as a clear signal of her intent to remain a key player in Telangana’s evolving political landscape, with the coming months likely to offer greater clarity on her next move.
