Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy counters Harish Rao’s remarks, calls for Assembly debate
Bhongir (Same Day): Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday launched a sharp counterattack against former minister T. Harish Rao, accusing him and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) of normalising abusive political discourse in Telangana.
Addressing the media, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy alleged that Mr. Harish Rao often speaks as if “ethical standards apply only to others and not to his own party.” He remarked that the style of political discourse adopted by the BRS leadership resembled “preaching morality while practising the opposite.”
The Congress MP claimed that former Chief Minister KCR was the first to introduce what he described as a culture of verbal abuse in Telangana politics, particularly during the statehood movement. “If there is a patent for abusive language in politics, it belongs to KCR,” he said, adding that such language had continued even after the party’s electoral defeat.
Referring to recent statements allegedly made by BRS leaders, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy said threatening language against a sitting Chief Minister was unacceptable. “When a former Chief Minister says he will ‘skin’ the present CM after two years, should everyone remain silent?” he asked, asserting that dignity was expected in public discourse, especially from leaders who held constitutional offices.
He also took aim at BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), alleging that he projected himself as the sole authority on IT and irrigation. Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy said Mr. Harish Rao should first advise KCR and KTR on restraint before lecturing others on political ethics.
Calling for accountability, the MP urged KCR to attend the Assembly and participate in a detailed debate. “Let us discuss water issues, facts, and the alleged irregularities and corruption during the BRS’s ten-year rule on the floor of the House,” he said.
Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy maintained that if the opposition chose to use intemperate language, the ruling party would respond in kind. He recalled that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had challenged the BRS leadership politically and defeated them in the 2023 Assembly elections, adding that the Congress was confident of repeating the outcome in 2029.
He concluded by advising the BRS to play a constructive role as the opposition by offering suggestions rather than indulging in personal attacks. Responding to BJP leader Bandi Sanjay’s comments on political language, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy said concerns about decorum should be addressed to those who initiated such discourse in the first place.
