State Syed Rights United Platform Plans Supreme Court Plea Seeking Wider Adoption of Urdu in Schools

Hyderabad (Same Day):
The State Syed Rights United Platform has announced its decision to file a petition before the Supreme Court seeking the nationwide introduction of Urdu as an optional second language in all schools, citing constitutional provisions and a recent judicial observation on language rights.

Speaking on the occasion of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad National Education Day, K.S.S. Baba Bandanawazi, a representative of the platform, said the community was encouraged by a recent Supreme Court judgment affirming that Urdu may be used on signboards anywhere in the country as a second language. He said this development had strengthened their long-standing demand for wider recognition of Urdu within the national education framework.

Mr. Bandanawazi noted that Urdu, with its deep historical and cultural roots in India, deserved greater institutional support and visibility. “We believe that the constitutional spirit of linguistic inclusion must be reflected in classrooms across the country. With the cooperation and blessings of our supporters, we will soon approach the Supreme Court to seek directions for the introduction of Urdu as an optional subject in schools nationwide,” he said.

The organisation has appealed to Urdu-speaking communities and supporters of linguistic diversity to spread awareness of the initiative and mobilise public support. The proposed petition, they said, aims to ensure that students across India have the opportunity to learn Urdu in accordance with constitutional guarantees on linguistic rights and minority education.
