BC Leaders Accuse Congress of “Betrayal”, Call for Massive ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ Protest on Nov. 30
Hyderabad (Same Day): Leaders of the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) and BC Joint Action Committee (BC-JAC) on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, accusing it of “deliberate betrayal” of Backward Classes in the recently announced sarpanch reservation list.
MRPS founder-president Manda Krishna Madiga and BC-JAC chairman Jajula Srinivas Goud alleged that the Congress, after coming to power on the promise of empowering BC communities, had “abandoned every commitment” it made before the elections. They called upon BC organisations across Telangana to join the ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ statewide protest on November 30 to register their dissent.
“Congress has deceived BCs after taking their votes”
The leaders said the Congress government had promised caste enumeration, determination of the BC population percentage, and implementation of enhanced reservations. “Instead, after months of delay, the government has drastically reduced BC reservations in the Gram Panchayat seats,” they said.
According to them, against the expectation of over 5,000 sarpanch seats, only around 2,000 were allotted to BCs. “This exposes how deeply the government has diluted BC representation. What should have rightfully gone to BCs has now been handed over to dominant, upper castes,” they charged.
They questioned how the government, which earlier granted 23% reservations, could now justify reducing the quota to 17%, calling it “a blatant violation of trust”.
Questions for Congress & BJP
The BC leaders criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for “failing to stand by BCs”, both in Telangana and at the national level.
“Rahul Gandhi speaks about BC empowerment, but did not act in Parliament, nor did he fulfill the promises made to Telangana’s BC communities,” they said.
They demanded to know why the Telangana government had not convened an all-party meeting on the issue, and why the Chief Minister had not led a delegation to Delhi to seek central approval for the BC reservation bill. The BJP too was criticised for “playing a double game”.
“BJP leaders speak one language in Delhi and another in Hyderabad. If they truly support BCs, they must ensure that the BC bill is passed in the upcoming Parliament session,” they said.
“Government celebrating while BCs suffer”
Srinivas Goud accused the government of ignoring protests across the State. “While BCs are burning on the streets, ministers are relaxing in air-conditioned offices. Even today, despite the start of the nomination process, Congress has not issued a single official clarification on 42% reservations promised at least on a party basis,” he said.
He added that the Congress’ victory in Jubilee Hills should not be interpreted as public support for its policies on BC reservations. “It was not a Congress victory; it was the victory of weaker sections unitedly voting,” he remarked.
Demand to halt GP elections...
The leaders urged the State government to stop the Gram Panchayat election process immediately, call an all-party meeting, and then proceed to Delhi for talks with the Centre.
“If both Congress and BJP continue to neglect BC issues, the community will intensify its agitation,” they warned.
‘Chalo Hyderabad’ on November 30
Both MRPS and BC-JAC said they would jointly mobilise lakhs of BC activists for the November 30 protest.
“The BC movement will not stop. Every BC youth who wants fair reservations must participate in the Chalo Hyderabad agitation,” they declared.
They also issued a final warning: “If the Congress government continues on this path and if the BJP fails to pass the BC bill in Parliament, both parties will face an unprecedented backlash from the BC community in the coming months.”
