Congress Government Strangling Farmers, Alleges Kappati Panduranga Reddy

Ranga Reddy (Same Day):
Telangana Jagruthi Ranga Reddy district president Kappati Panduranga Reddy has accused the Congress government of neglecting farmers and allowing middlemen to exploit them, particularly those cultivating maize.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Reddy said maize cultivation had expanded across nearly 80,000 acres in the district this season due to high demand from the poultry and cattle feed industries. “Farmers have harvested their crops, but continuous rainfall has made it difficult to store them. With no government procurement centres in place, they are forced to sell their produce at throwaway prices to traders and middlemen,” he said.

The government had announced a minimum support price (MSP) of ₹2,300 per quintal, yet procurement had not begun, he alleged. “Taking advantage of the government’s apathy, middlemen are purchasing maize at just ₹1,900 to ₹2,000 per quintal, depriving farmers of their rightful income,” Mr. Reddy said, adding that farmers were unable to recover even their input costs.

Criticising the Congress regime, he said, “The government has failed to deliver on its promises of Rythu Bharosa and loan waiver. It could not even provide seeds and fertilisers on time. Now, it is turning a blind eye to the distress of farmers who have toiled for months.”

Mr. Reddy demanded that the State government immediately set up maize procurement centres across the district and purchase the crop at ₹2,400 per quintal to ensure farmers get a fair price.
