Bandaru Dattatraya writes to CM Revanth Reddy seeking better facilities at AIIMS Bibi Nagar
Hyderabad (Same Day): Former Governor of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, and former Union Minister Shri Bandaru Dattatraya has written a detailed letter to Telangana Chief Minister Shri Anumula Revanth Reddy, urging the State Government to facilitate various developmental and infrastructural services for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bibi Nagar.
In his letter, Dattatraya shared his observations and recommendations following his visit to AIIMS Bibi Nagar on October 13, 2025, where he interacted with faculty members, students, and patients. He emphasized that AIIMS Bibi Nagar—established by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under Phase VII of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) in 2019—was a “gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji to the people of Telangana.” The institution, he said, must be developed as a leading centre for healthcare, education, and research through cooperative efforts of the State and Central Governments.
Calling upon the Chief Minister to extend full cooperation, Dattatraya urged the Government to ensure coordination among all elected representatives—irrespective of political affiliations—to support AIIMS Bibi Nagar’s expansion in mission mode. He laid out several key requests to enhance infrastructure, transport, and civic amenities around the institute.
Public Transport and Connectivity: He appealed to the State Government to direct the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) to ensure that all 250-plus buses operating on NH-163 stop at the AIIMS bus stop via the Bibi Nagar flyover service road. He suggested extending city bus services from Ghatkesar to AIIMS Bibi Nagar to improve accessibility for patients, staff, and visitors. Dattatraya also recommended reviving the old NH-163 alignment by constructing an overbridge at the railway crossing and maintaining the Chinneru River bridge to better connect Bibi Nagar town and AIIMS.
MMTS and Bus Depot: The former Governor requested the State to expedite the extension of the MMTS suburban rail line beyond Bibi Nagar, allowing faster and affordable access from Hyderabad. He also proposed establishing a new TGSRTC bus depot south of the railway track, linking NH-163 with NH-191P, to integrate AIIMS into daily transport operations.
Electric Buses Mobility: Dattatraya urged the introduction of electric buses (e-buses) under central government schemes such as FAME I & II, the National Electric Bus Programme (CESL), and the PM e-Bus Sewa, operating between Afzalgunj (Osmania General Hospital) and Yadagirigutta via AIIMS Bibi Nagar.
Safety and Fire Services: He drew attention to the newly built fire station on the AIIMS campus, requesting the immediate deployment of trained personnel, fire tenders, and snorkel systems to make it fully operational. He noted that the newly constructed hostel buildings for boys and girls were awaiting the installation of fire safety systems.
Educational and Civic Infrastructure: Dattatraya also proposed the establishment of a Central or private school zone near AIIMS to cater to the educational needs of staff families and attract skilled medical professionals to the region.
District Administration Coordination: He urged the Chief Minister to instruct the District Collector of Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri to coordinate with AIIMS authorities to ensure smooth civic administration and essential services. He recommended forming a joint coordination committee involving officials from TGSRTC, Roads & Buildings, Fire Services, Revenue, Education, and Municipal Departments to resolve logistical bottlenecks, build bus bays, regulate traffic near AIIMS, and promptly respond to institutional requests.
Describing AIIMS Bibi Nagar’s strategic location between Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR), Dattatraya highlighted its potential to become a regional hub for healthcare excellence. He noted that its connectivity through NH-163, NH-191P, and proximity to the Bibi Nagar Railway Junction and Yadagirigutta Temple made it ideal for serving one million outpatients annually and achieving a top rank in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
Reiterating his faith in cooperative federalism, Dattatraya expressed confidence that joint efforts between the Government of Telangana and the Government of India would transform AIIMS Bibi Nagar into a national model of integrated healthcare, education, and research.
