"Yaad-e-Jamali, Yaad-e-Asghar" Event Organised in Hyderabad to Honour Literary and Journalistic Contributions

Hyderabad (Same Day):
In a solemn and grand event held at Zimris Banquet Hall, Vijayanagar Colony, the Urdu literary and journalistic community gathered to pay homage to two distinguished figures — noted journalist Faiz Mohammad Asghar and renowned poet, writer, and dramatist Abdul Hakeem Jamali. The memorial function, titled "Yaad-e-Jamali, Yaad-e-Asghar," was organised by the RC Urdu Media House.

Speaking at the gathering, Prof. S.A. Shukoor, Director of Dairatul Maarif, Osmania University, said, “Nations that forget the contributions of their elders can never progress. Remembering and honouring our scholars and thinkers is the hallmark of a living nation.” He highlighted the pivotal role of Abdul Hakeem Jamali in promoting Urdu and inspiring political leaders like former Minister M. Baga Reddy works for the upliftment of the language.

He also lauded the contributions of Faiz Mohammad Asghar, recalling his fearless journalism, commitment to community service, and exemplary work in guiding Hajj and Umrah pilgrims through the establishment of the All India Hajj & Umrah Guidance Society.

The event was marked by the presentation of two prestigious awards. The Abdul Hakeem Jamali Award was conferred upon eminent writer and poet Dr. Mohsin Jilganvi, while the Faiz Mohammad Asghar Award for excellence in journalism was presented to Abdul Qadeer Faisal, Vice-President of the Telangana Union of Working Journalists.

Veteran journalist Riaz Ahmed emphasized the significance of remembering teachers and mentors in today’s fast-paced world. “In an age when even close relatives are forgotten, honouring teachers reflects deep values and gratitude,” he said. Saadullah Khan Sabeel, organiser of the event and a student of both late figures, was praised for his dedication and for keeping the memory of his mentors alive through such thoughtful initiatives.

Other speakers at the event included Dr. Aleem Khan Falaki, President of the Socio-Reform Society, Hyderabad (who also presided over the session), Saifuddin Ghouri Saif (retired Municipal Manager and a student of Jamali), and Abdul Hai, son of Abdul Hakeem Jamali. The event began with a recitation of the Quran by Zafar Farooqi, followed by a Hamd by Saadullah Khan Sabeel.

The literary session was conducted by noted poet Latifuddin Latif, and Jamali's son Abdul Bari recited selected verses from his father’s poetry.

A grand mushaira (poetry symposium) followed, featuring prominent poets including Dr. Mohsin Jalganvi, Saif Nizami, Tahir Gulshanabadi, Zafar Farooqi, Naveed Jafri, Tahir Bilal, Altaf Shehryar, Saadullah Khan Sabeel, Khwaja Masihuddin Abu Nabeel, Shakeel Haider Kanpuri, Syed Khadim Rasool Aini, Saifuddin Ghouri Saif (Zaheerabad), Latifuddin Latif, Ismail Zabeeh, Baseer Khalid, Govind Akshay, and Rafiq Jigar. Prominent personalities in attendance included Dr. Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Hussamuddin, Mohammad Nasrullah Khan, Mohammad Hashim (President, Bazm-e-Mohibban-e-Telangana), social worker Abdul Waris, and Nisar Ahmed of Nisar Transport.
