Tirupati Police Introduce QR Code-Enabled Press Stickers to Curb Fake Journalists
Tirupati (Same Da): In a significant step aimed at identifying genuine journalists and curbing the misuse of press credentials, the Tirupati district police have rolled out QR code-enabled press stickers for media personnel operating in the region.
The initiative, taken under the directions of Superintendent of Police V. Harshavardhan Raju, comes in response to repeated appeals from both print and electronic media representatives. According to officials, the new stickers contain QR codes that, when scanned, display vital information such as the journalist’s name, media organisation, designation, and official accreditation number issued by the District Collector.
Police officials stated that the move would help in verifying the authenticity of journalists, thereby preventing unauthorised individuals from misusing press labels for personal or unlawful gains. “Those found in possession of unauthorised press stickers, or those creating such stickers without official approval, will face stringent legal action,” authorities warned.
Media professionals in the district have welcomed the development, describing it as a much-needed measure to safeguard the rights and credibility of accredited journalists. “This step not only ensures transparency but also helps in distinguishing legitimate media representatives from imposters,” said a senior journalist based in Tirupati.
The Tirupati police department has appealed to all media organisations to ensure that their representatives register and avail the official press stickers at the earliest.
