Noted Philanthropist and Reformer Ghayasuddin Babu Khan Passes Away at 83
Hyderabad (Same Day): Mr. Ghayasuddin Babu Khan, renowned philanthropist, educationist, and social reformer, passed away on Sunday at AIG Hospital, Gachibowli. He was 83. He was survived by wife, three sons and a daughter. The funeral prayers (Namaz-e-Janaza) held later tonight after Isha prayers at Masjid E Baqee, Road No. 12, Banjara Hills.
A member of the illustrious Babu Khan family, Mr. Ghayasuddin was the son of Khan Bahadur Abdul Karim Babu Khan and the younger brother of Mr. Basheeruddin Babu Khan. He was widely respected for his lifelong commitment to social upliftment and educational reform, particularly among marginalised communities.
Through the Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust and the Ghayasuddin Babu Khan Charitable Trust, he played a pivotal role in transforming the educational landscape not just in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, but across India. Under his leadership, the trusts provided thousands of scholarships to underprivileged yet meritorious students, enabling many to pursue higher education and careers in engineering, medicine, and other fields.
A visionary with a deep sense of community responsibility, Mr. Babu Khan was instrumental in advocating for the establishment of the Telangana Minorities Residential Schools, a government initiative aimed at empowering minority youth through quality education.
He also worked extensively for the rehabilitation and remarriage of young widows, helping rebuild hundreds of lives through compassionate social reform.
Colleagues and community leaders described him as a man of rare passion and humility, who combined administrative acumen with a tireless dedication to social justice.
His passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy will continue through the institutions and lives he helped shape.
