Centre accused of stalling BC reservation bill... BC Welfare Association chief alleges political misuse of constitutional offices
Hyderabad (Same Day): The Centre is deliberately delaying the approval of the Telangana Backward Classes (BC) Reservation Bill, which seeks to increase BC reservations to 42% in education, employment, and political sectors, alleged Mr. Jajula Srinivas Goud, National President of the BC Welfare Association.
Speaking at an event held at BC Bhavan in Hyderabad on Monday to mark the 107th birth anniversary of former Bihar Chief Minister and Mandal Commission Chairman B.P. Mandal, Mr. Goud criticised the Central government for treating institutions like the Rashtrapati Bhavan and Raj Bhavan as “pocket organisations” of the ruling BJP.
“Despite the Telangana Legislative Assembly unanimously passing the BC Reservation Bill and sending it to the Centre five months ago, it remains pending without any clarity. This is a clear indication that the Centre is not committed to the upliftment of backward communities,” Mr. Goud said.
Call for Mandal Commission implementation...
Recalling the contributions of the Mandal Commission, Mr. Goud stated that only two of the 32 recommendations made by the Commission have been implemented so far. “Governments have ignored the rest for over 35 years, resulting in continued injustice to BCs across all sectors,” he said.
He pointed out that the Mandal Commission recommended 52% reservations for BCs in accordance with their population, but this was never fully realised.
Warning ahead of Bihar elections...
Mr. Goud warned that if the Centre fails to approve the Telangana BC Reservation Bill, BCs in Bihar would deliver a “fitting response” to the BJP-led alliance in the upcoming Assembly elections. “If the Prime Minister truly belongs to the backward classes, he must implement the remaining Mandal recommendations and prove his commitment,” he added.
He alleged that the BJP is undermining constitutional authorities by using the offices of the President and Governor for political ends. “The State has fulfilled its duty by passing the bill. It is the Centre that is stalling the process using unconstitutional means,” he said.
The event was attended by several BC leaders and intellectuals, including Prof. Sanghani Malleshwar of the BC Intellectual Forum, Warangal Srinivas, Guduru Bhaskar, and Varikuppala Madhu, among others.
