Central Govt.'s Inaction Behind Urea Shortage in Telangana, Alleges Congress Leader Panduranga Reddy
Rangareddy (Same Day)): Former Chairman of the Rangareddy District Library Corporation and senior Congress leader Kappati Panduranga Reddy has held the Central government squarely responsible for the ongoing urea shortage in Telangana. Addressing a press conference on Friday, Reddy accused the Centre of discriminatory practices and a complete failure in ensuring adequate urea supply to the state’s farmers.
He pointed out that although the Centre had allocated 3.94 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of urea to Telangana, only 2.10 LMT had been supplied so far. "To make matters worse," he noted, "the Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL) plant was non-operational for 78 days, affecting the production and supply chain. Of the 1.69 LMT allocated additionally from RFCL, only 1.07 LMT reached the state."
Reddy expressed concern that this shortfall has led to a cumulative deficit of approximately 2.58 LMT of urea, severely impacting farmers during the peak agricultural season.
He criticised BJP leaders for turning a blind eye to the Centre’s shortcomings and instead colluding with BRS leaders to malign the Congress government in the state. "Rather than acknowledging the Centre's failure, they are resorting to baseless allegations against the state government," he said.
Reddy highlighted that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has been consistently engaging with Union Fertilizer Minister J.P. Nadda has been on this issue since March, and that Congress MPs have raised the matter multiple times in Parliament.
He cautioned BRS leaders against attempting to politicize farmers' issues for electoral gain. "What happened to their promise of free fertilizers to farmers?" he asked, reminding them of the protests and gheraos they had once led during Sabitha Indra Reddy’s tenure as Maheshwaram MLA and Minister.
Congress leaders Ekula Mahender Kuruma, Andugula Satyanarayana, Undela Baburao, and Sabhavath Ganesh Nayak were present at the press conference.
