BC Welfare Association Slams Parliament for Ignoring Reservation Issue... Rahul Gandhi, BJP leadership face criticism over silence on Telangana BC reservation bill
Hyderabad (Same Day): The month-long monsoon session of Parliament has ended in disappointment for Backward Classes (BC) communities across the country, with no discussion held on the crucial issue of enhancing BC reservations. BC Welfare Association National President Jajula Srinivas Goud on Thursday expressed strong dismay at what he described as the "collective failure" of both the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc to address the concerns of BCs in Parliament.
Speaking to reporters at the Telangana Secretariat, Mr. Goud criticised the Congress leadership, particularly Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, for not raising the Telangana BC reservation bill during the session. “It is unfortunate that Rahul Gandhi, who had ample opportunity to voice support for increased BC reservations, remained silent throughout the entire session,” he said.
Mr. Goud pointed out that despite the Telangana Legislative Assembly passing a bill to increase BC reservations to 42% in education, employment, and political sectors, and despite repeated protests in Delhi by BC groups, the matter was not taken up even once in Parliament. He also criticised the BJP-led Union Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that “a Prime Minister from a BC background choosing to ignore this issue sends a disheartening message to BC communities.”
Opposition and ruling front equally responsible...
The BC Welfare Association accused both the INDIA bloc and NDA coalition of failing BCs. “While INDIA bloc leaders aggressively highlighted the Bihar caste census issue, they showed no interest in the Telangana model, which has actually implemented progressive reservation policies,” said Mr. Goud. He added that the inaction of Congress MPs from Telangana, who only raised adjournment motions and did not press the issue further, reflects a lack of commitment to the BC cause.
Despite Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and PCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud meeting with senior Congress leaders in Delhi to push for support, no significant action was taken in Parliament, Mr. Goud noted.
Call for sustained agitation...
Mr. Goud called upon the BC community in Telangana and across the country to intensify their agitation until the Centre recognised and acted on the demand for increased reservations. He further urged the Telangana government not to proceed with local body elections until the enhanced 42% BC reservations are fully implemented.
“This is not a partisan issue. The welfare and representation of BCs is a matter of social justice. Both national alliances have failed the BC community in this session,” he said.
Several BC leaders were present at the press briefing, including Thatikonda Vikram (National President, BC Student Union), Kanakala Shyam Kurma (President, BC Youth Association), Jajula Lingam Goud (State Secretary, BC Welfare Association), and Sandhya (Vice President, BC Women’s Association). They reiterated their commitment to continuing protests and lobbying efforts at both state and national levels.
