Safeguarding Constitution a Collective Bahujan Responsibility, says Shabbir Ali
Kamareddy (Same Day): Telangana Government Advisor and senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Sunday underscored the critical role of Bahujan communities in defending the Indian Constitution, asserting that its protection is not merely a legal duty but a moral and political imperative.
Addressing the Bahujan Alai-Balai programme at Kalabharathi auditorium in Kamareddy, organised by the All India Ambedkar Yuvajana Sangham, Mr. Shabbir Ali warned of growing threats to constitutional values, particularly from forces seeking to supplant the framework established by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
“The slogan of ‘Ab ki baar 400 paar’ was met with a powerful counter-narrative in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. Those who dream of replacing the Constitution with Manusmriti will remain in the realm of dreams. India will not revert to regressive ideologies,” he said.
Lauding the growing support for Congress leadership from progressive voices, Mr. Shabbir Ali cited the endorsement of public intellectuals like Kancha Ilaiah as a positive sign. “Such support reflects the ideological clarity the nation is yearning for,” he remarked.
In a key policy announcement, the Congress leader revealed that Telangana, under the current Congress administration, would soon begin implementing 42% reservations for Backward Classes, claiming it as a pioneering move at the national level.
Calling for political consolidation among Bahujans in the run-up to local body elections, Mr. Shabbir Ali urged the community to demonstrate unity and electoral strength. “Victory in the upcoming polls will signal the resurgence of Ambedkarite and Phulevadi ideals,” he said.
Reflecting on the broader significance of the gathering, which coincided with the 75th year since the Constitution came into force, he said: “It is a matter of immense pride to mark this occasion in Kamareddy. We must continue the legacy of Phule, Savitribai Phule, Ambedkar, and Periyar, who tirelessly worked for the upliftment of SCs, STs, BCs, and minorities.”
He also expressed concern over the erosion of rights and affirmative action policies, urging a united front to resist such encroachments. “From education and employment to political representation, every constitutional guarantee is now under siege. It is our responsibility to defend and deepen these gains,” he cautioned.
The event was attended by a large number of youth and community leaders from various parts of Kamareddy district.
