BC Welfare Organisations Announce Nationwide Stir over Reservation Bill

Hyderabad (Same Day):
Alleging deliberate delay by the Centre in approving the BC reservation bill passed by the Telangana Assembly, BC welfare organisations on Saturday announced a series of nationwide protests under the banner “BJP Hatao, BC Reservation Bachao”. The announcement was made by the National President of the BC Welfare Association, Mr. Jajula Srinivas Goud, at the unveiling of the National OBC Mahasabha wall poster in Hyderabad.

Addressing the media at the Press Club in Basheerbagh, Mr. Srinivas Goud demanded that the Parliament hold a two-day special session exclusively to deliberate on the BC reservation bill. “Only then will the country know which parties stand with the backward classes and which are using them for political gain,” he remarked.

He came down heavily on Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, accusing him of misleading the public with “factually incorrect and irresponsible statements” regarding BC reservations. “Contrary to his claims, it is the Centre that holds the power to amend and approve the bill. Repeatedly invoking minority reservations as a diversion is not only misleading but also harmful to the BC community,” he stated.

Nationwide Movement Planned...

Mr. Srinivas Goud announced that from next week, BC organisations will intensify their campaign by directly meeting BJP public representatives — from ward members to Union Ministers — across the country to submit memoranda and build pressure. If the Centre fails to respond, the protest will escalate to road blockades and demonstrations across States, he warned.

He further revealed that a massive "National OBC Mahasabha" will be held in Goa on August 7 at the Shyam Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, with delegates from 29 States expected to attend. A nationwide action plan on BC reservations will be announced at the event.

Responding to BJP State President Mr. Ramchandra Rao’s claim that the party would allot 42% of tickets to BCs, Mr. Goud questioned why the Centre was unwilling to enact statutory provisions for the same. “It is mere lip service aimed at confusing the electorate,” he said.

Welcoming recent remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at an OBC gathering in New Delhi, Mr. Goud said, “We appreciate his call for social justice based on population proportion. It aligns with our long-standing demand that representation must reflect demographic reality.”

The wall poster unveiling event was organised under the leadership of Ms. B. Mani Manjari Sagar, State President of the BC Mahila Welfare Association. Several leaders from various BC caste associations and the BC JAC also participated in the meeting, including K. Ganesh Chari, Kulkacharla Srinivas Mudiraj, Thatikonda Vikram Goud, and others.

The leaders collectively resolved to mount sustained pressure on the Union Government to approve the BC reservation bill and increase the reservation percentage to reflect the socio-economic realities of the backward classes.
