BC Welfare Association urges PM to appoint Vice-President from Backward Classes... Dattatreya or Tamilisai suggested as potential candidates
Hyderabad (Same Day): In a open letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BC Welfare Association National President Mr. Jajula Srinivas Goud has urged the Centre to appoint a representative from the Backward Classes as the next Vice-President of India. He proposed the names of former Union Minister and Ex Governor of Haryana, Mr. Bandaru Dattatreya, or former Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan for the post.
Mr. Goud stated that the resignation of Mr. Jagdeep Dhankhar from the Vice-President’s post presents an opportunity for the Central Government to demonstrate its commitment to social justice by appointing a leader from the BC community to the second-highest constitutional office in the country.
In the letter, Mr. Goud recalled that while the government had made history by appointing an Adivasi woman, Ms. Droupadi Murmu, as the President of India, a similar step must now be taken to empower the Backward Classes at the national level.
He also expressed concern that recent gubernatorial appointments have largely favoured upper-caste individuals and that most key positions in the BJP and the Central Government continue to be dominated by members of privileged communities.
“Despite being the largest social group in the country, members of the Backward Classes have historically been underrepresented in top constitutional positions,” Mr. Goud wrote. He also criticised the early resignation of Mr. Dhankhar, who himself hails from a BC background, suggesting that it cut short the only meaningful representation the community had in such a high office.
Mr. Goud concluded by urging the government to treat this vacancy as a chance to correct historical imbalances and reaffirm its dedication to inclusive governance.
