Iran Confirms Strike on Israeli Military Targets... Acknowledges Damage to Military Hospital
Hyderabad, June 20 (Same Day): Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Thursday confirmed that the Iranian Armed Forces had carried out a targeted strike on what he described as an Israeli military Command, Control and Intelligence headquarters, along with another “vital” strategic site. The operation, according to Iranian authorities, was a response to what they allege is continued Israeli military aggression against Iran and Palestinian territories.
In a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Mr. Araghchi said the missile strike had been executed “with precision” and resulted in the “elimination” of Israeli military infrastructure. He added that the blast wave caused superficial damage to a small section of the nearby Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, which he said was “largely evacuated” at the time of the incident.
The Soroka hospital, located in southern Israel approximately 40 kilometres from the Gaza border, has been treating Israeli military personnel injured in the ongoing conflict. While Iranian officials claimed the damage was minimal and unintentional, Israeli authorities accused Iran of targeting civilian infrastructure and called the strike a violation of international law.
Mr. Araghchi defended the operation, reiterating Iran’s stance that it is responding to an “illegal war” launched by Israel against Iranian interests. “It is the Israeli regime, not Iran, that initiated this bloodshed. Israeli war criminals, not Iranians, are the ones targeting hospitals and civilians,” he said. The statement further alleged that “hundreds of innocent Iranians” had been killed since the start of Israeli military operations last week.
Iran also reiterated its earlier warning to Israeli civilians to evacuate areas near military and intelligence installations. “Our Armed Forces will continue to strike until the aggression against our nation ceases and the perpetrators are held accountable,” the Foreign Minister stated.
There was no immediate confirmation from the Israeli Defence Forces regarding the claimed destruction of a military facility. However, officials have confirmed injuries at the Soroka Medical Center following the strike, with the full extent of the damage under assessment.
The latest developments mark a sharp escalation in hostilities between the two countries, prompting renewed calls for restraint from international observers. The United Nations, the European Union, and several regional powers have urged both sides to avoid further civilian harm and to seek diplomatic avenues to de-escalate tensions.
