Iran Accuses Israel of Airstrikes on Civilian, Nuclear Sites; Launches Retaliatory Operation
HYDERABAD (Same Day): The Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hyderabad issued a press release on Tuesday alleging that Israel had carried out a series of airstrikes on Iranian territory, including civilian and strategic locations. The Iranian statement condemned the attacks as violations of international law and announced the initiation of a military response under the right of self-defence.
According to the statement, the alleged Israeli strikes occurred on June 13 and in the days following, targeting residential areas, hospitals, humanitarian vehicles, and media infrastructure. Specific locations named include the Natanz nuclear facility, Hakim Children’s Hospital, Farabi Hospital, and the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) headquarters.
The Consulate described the incidents as a “grave breach” of Iran’s sovereignty and of international legal norms, particularly citing Article 2(4) and Article 51 of the UN Charter, the Geneva Conventions, and resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It also referenced Article 8 of the Rome Statute, under which attacks on civilian infrastructure and media facilities may constitute war crimes.
In response, Iranian forces have launched a military operation termed “True Promise 3,” which officials describe as a proportional act of self-defence.
The Iranian government called upon United Nations member states and international peace advocacy groups to “condemn the attacks” and take steps to prevent further escalation, particularly against nuclear facilities. It warned that the normalization of such assaults could pose catastrophic risks to global safety and environmental stability.
There has been no immediate comment from the Israeli government regarding the allegations. The developments come amid heightened regional tensions and concerns over the future of ongoing nuclear negotiations involving Iran and global powers. Diplomatic observers are closely monitoring the situation.
