Editors of Urdu Dailies Call on I&PR Officials, Seek Release of Pending Bills and Rate Card Revisions
Hyderabad (Same Day): A delegation comprising senior editors of small Urdu newspapers met with the Special Commissioner of the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department, Priyanka, IAS, and Joint Director Jagan, on Monday to submit a memorandum highlighting long-pending issues faced by the Urdu press in Telangana.
The meeting was led by S.S.K. Hussaini Iqbal, Editor of Deccan Samachar, was attended by a large number of editors representing over 40 local Urdu publications. The primary concerns raised included the non-clearance of advertisement bills for the past year and the lack of revision and issuance of rate cards for Urdu newspapers since 2018.
The officials heard the delegation patiently. Priyanka assured the editors that the department is aware of their grievances and would take necessary steps to expedite the process of bill payments and policy updates. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting minority language media and ensuring equitable treatment for small-scale publications.
The delegation included editors such as Syed Usman Rashid (Mehangai), Mohammed Wajid Masood (Siyanat-e-Jamhur), Asad Ali (Saher Bayan), Khaleel Ahmed (Tuluway Seher), Mohammed Abdul Samad (Super Express), and Mohammed Atiq Akbar (Qaumi Intikhab), among others.
Speaking after the meeting, Hussaini Iqbal expressed cautious optimism. “We are hopeful that the department will follow through on its assurances. Many of our papers are struggling to sustain operations due to delayed payments,” he said.
The delegation called for a time-bound resolution and urged the state to treat regional and Urdu language media with the same urgency and fairness as mainstream publications.
