BCs deserve BJP State Chief post, says Jajula Srinivas Goud
Hyderabad (Same Day): BC Welfare Association national president Jajula Srinivas Goud stirred a fresh political debate by demanding that the next Telangana BJP president be chosen from the Backward Classes. He said it was time the BJP lived up to its promises, especially after having assured a BC Chief Minister before the elections. “BCs make up nearly 60% of the population in Telangana, but they’re nowhere to be seen in the BJP’s top leadership. How long will this injustice continue?” he asked, addressing a press meet in Hyderabad. Goud slammed the party’s leadership for continuing to favour leaders from upper castes, both in the Assembly and in party posts. “During the campaign, the BJP promised a BC Chief Minister. But after the polls, the legislative leader was from a forward caste. Even now, the names doing the rounds for the State president are all upper caste leaders. Is this the party’s idea of social justice?” he questioned.
The BC leader didn’t stop there. He pointed out that in Haryana, the BJP regained power only after appointing a BC as Chief Minister. “Why can’t Telangana follow the same model?” he asked.
He also took a dig at the Congress, while praising its decision to appoint a BC as TPCC president. “When even the Congress has made the move, why is the BJP lagging behind?” he said. Goud warned that ignoring BC voices would cost the BJP politically. “BCs can’t be taken for granted anymore. We want real representation, not tokenism,” he said, adding that the party must choose a leader who understands and represents BC interests.
With buzz growing around a likely change in the Telangana BJP’s leadership, Goud’s statement is likely to intensify pressure on the party to rethink its choices.
