Systemic reforms, skill upgradation key to Railways’ growth: SCR GM... Hyderabad and Guntakal divisions jointly win overall efficiency shield

Emphasising the need for institutional reforms and continuous skill enhancement, South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava on Thursday said that accountability-driven governance and technology-enabled processes were crucial for the sustained growth of Indian Railways.

Addressing the 70th Railway Week celebrations held at Rail Kalarang in New Bhoiguda here, Mr. Srivastava underlined that employees constituted the Railways’ greatest strength and reiterated the zone’s commitment to staff welfare. He called for time-bound systemic reforms across passenger services, operations, maintenance and productivity, while encouraging innovation, evaluation and effective implementation of new ideas.

Stressing the importance of skill development in the modern technological era, the General Manager urged officers and staff to leverage digital learning platforms to build a competent and future-ready workforce. He also reaffirmed that safety remained a top priority, with Indian Railways continuously adopting advanced technologies to enhance operational efficiency.

The Hyderabad and Guntakal divisions were jointly awarded the General Manager’s Overall Best Performance Efficiency Shield at the zonal level. In addition, 35 zonal efficiency shields were presented to various divisions, workshops and departments for outstanding performance during the year.

A total of 86 officers and staff members received individual Distinguished Railway Service Awards in recognition of their exceptional contributions.

Among divisions, Secunderabad Division secured multiple shields, including Finance (Accounts), Mechanical, Operating and Best Maintained Long-Distance Train for the Godavari Express. Hyderabad Division won shields for Works, Safety, Signal & Telecom, Environment and Housekeeping, Rajbhasha (Hindi), besides sharing the overall efficiency shield. Vijayawada Division received awards in Commercial, Electrical General Services, Civil Engineering, HRD, Innovations and MRV maintenance.

Guntakal Division was recognised for Operations, Running Rooms, Track Maintenance, Level Crossing Elimination, Loading Performance, Grievance Redressal, Security and Best Railway School, in addition to sharing the overall efficiency shield. Guntur Division won awards for Cleanliness, Medical Services, Safety, Track Machines, ART maintenance and Scrap Disposal, while Nanded Division was honoured for Bridges, MRV maintenance, Rail Madad and Level Crossing Elimination.

Awards were also presented to Kazi­pet Construction Unit for Survey and Construction, Vijayawada Electric Loco Shed as the best loco shed, Tirupati Workshop as the best mechanical workshop, Moula Ali Diesel Loco Shed for DEMU/MEMU/EMU maintenance, and Lalaguda for Best Stores Depot.

Earlier, Additional General Manager Satya Prakash, in his welcome address, congratulated the award-winning divisions and personnel and outlined the zone’s key achievements during the current financial year.

The event was attended by senior railway officials, divisional railway managers and staff, and featured cultural performances by railway employees.
