Notice issued to former MP Santosh Kumar in phone-tapping case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged phone-tapping case has issued a notice to former Rajya Sabha member Joginipally Santosh Kumar, asking him to appear for questioning at the ACP office in Jubilee Hills on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

The notice, issued under Section 160 of the BNSS, directs Mr. Santosh Kumar to present himself before the investigating officer in connection with further investigation in Crime No. 243/2024 dt.10.03.2024, registered at Panjagutta police station.

According to the notice, the case has been booked under Sections 166, 409, 427, 201 and 120(B) read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code, Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act, and Sections 65, 66, 66(F)(1)(B)(2) and 70 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The police stated that during the course of investigation, it was revealed that Mr. Santosh Kumar was acquainted with certain facts and circumstances relevant to the case, necessitating his examination. He has been asked to appear in person upon receipt of the notice and acknowledge its receipt.

Officials clarified that the summons was part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged illegal phone-tapping operation. Further details are expected to emerge after the examination.
