Kavitha assures support to auto drivers, seeks fulfilment of poll promise
Hyderabad (Same Day): Telangana Jagruti president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Wednesday said her organisation would take up the issues of auto drivers with the government and, if necessary, launch a collective agitation along with auto unions to protect their livelihood and safety.
Ms. Kavitha was speaking at a meeting with leaders of various auto unions at the Telangana Jagruti office in Hyderabad. She demanded that the Congress government immediately fulfil its pre-election promise of providing ₹12,000 financial assistance to auto drivers.
Expressing concern over the harassment of auto drivers arriving in Hyderabad from other districts, Ms. Kavitha said preventing them from operating despite having valid permits was unjustified. She described the situation as alarming and called for immediate intervention by the authorities.
“The responsibility of ensuring workers’ safety and safeguarding their right to livelihood rests with the government,” she said, adding that attacks and intimidation against auto drivers from districts must be stopped without delay.
Ms. Kavitha said Telangana Jagruti would engage with all auto associations on the issue and, if required, approach the Labour Minister to seek a resolution. She also assured that discussions would be held with police and transport department officials to ensure complete protection for auto drivers coming to the city from districts.
Reiterating Telangana Jagruti’s commitment to workers’ welfare, she said the organisation would continue to stand with labourers in the spirit of the Telangana movement.
