IIT Delhi alumni hold leadership roles across sectors worldwide
New Delhi (Same Day): Alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have emerged as a significant force in leadership positions across industry, government and academia, according to the institute’s first-ever alumni report.
The report notes that nearly 10,000 IIT Delhi alumni currently occupy leadership roles in banking, engineering and allied sectors across the globe. From founders of major startups such as Flipkart and Zomato to senior civil servants, including Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, the institute’s graduates have made their mark in diverse fields.
IIT Delhi stated that its alumni base has grown to over 65,000 worldwide, many of whom are playing key roles in entrepreneurship, public administration and higher education in India and abroad. More than 650 alumni are serving in government institutions, including about 270 IAS officers.
Contrary to the narrative of large-scale brain drain, the report highlights that nearly 70% of IIT Delhi alumni are working in India. Around 40,000 alumni are settled within the country, while about 17,000 reside in the United States and other countries.
The institute also noted that over 1,000 alumni hold senior positions in large corporate organisations, and more than 2,500 are founders, co-founders or leaders of startups. Alumni are contributing across sectors such as technology and IT services, banking and finance, manufacturing and engineering, as well as consulting, energy, infrastructure and professional services.
Releasing the report, IIT Delhi said the findings underscore the institution’s long-standing contribution to nation-building and global innovation through its alumni network.
