Congress leaders to tour districts, hold village meetings on employment guarantee
Hyderabad (Same Day): The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud and All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan will undertake district tours from January 28 to 31 as part of a State-wide campaign on issues related to the National Employment Guarantee Act.
The Congress is stepping up its agitation following the AICC’s call against what it alleges is the dilution of the employment guarantee programme and the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the scheme. As part of the campaign, party leaders will conduct gram sabhas and interact with workers enrolled under the job guarantee programme across several Assembly constituencies.
According to party sources, Congress leaders will participate in at least one village meeting in each constituency they visit. The programme includes meetings in two villages a day — one in the morning and another in the evening — to directly engage with job card holders and hear their concerns. Separate interactions with employment guarantee workers are also planned, along with community meals as a mark of solidarity.
The tour will begin on January 28 with visits to Medak and Manakondur. On January 29, the leaders will travel to Vemulawada and Yellareddy. On January 30, they will visit Medaram to offer prayers at the Sammakka–Saralamma shrine and later attend a village meeting in the Alair Assembly constituency. On the final day, January 31, gram sabhas are scheduled in Nakrekal and Ibrahimpatnam constituencies.
Party leaders said the campaign aims to mobilise public support in defence of the employment guarantee law and highlight the Congress’ commitment to protecting the interests of rural labourers.
