Komatireddy urges toll-free travel on Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway during Sankranti
Hyderabad (Same Day): In view of the heavy festive rush during Sankranti, Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has urged Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to waive toll charges on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway for a limited period.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Gadkari, the Minister requested that toll-free passage be permitted from January 9 to 14 on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada stretch, and from January 16 to 18 on the return Vijayawada–Hyderabad route. He noted that traffic volumes during the Sankranti holidays typically increase by nearly 200%, leading to severe congestion at toll plazas.
Mr. Venkat Reddy emphasised that a temporary suspension of toll collection would help ensure smoother vehicular movement, reduce travel time for commuters, and prevent bottlenecks along one of the busiest inter-State corridors during the festive season. He appealed to the Centre to consider the request in the interest of public convenience and road safety.
