Encroachments on Ranga Reddy Water Bodies Alleged; Telangana Jagruthi Submits Complaint to HYDRA Commissioner
Hyderabad (Same Day): Large-scale encroachments on lakes, ponds and irrigation canals across Ranga Reddy district continue unabated despite multiple drives taken up by the authorities, alleged Telangana Jagruthi Ranga Reddy district president Kappati Panduranga Reddy. He said political leaders’ followers and real-estate operators, with the alleged cooperation of irrigation officials, have been illegally occupying water bodies, filling Full Tank Level (FTL) areas and converting them into plots.
According to him, forged and back-dated NOCs were being used to legitimise constructions in prohibited zones, resulting in the disappearance of several lakes and the loss of government property worth crores of rupees.
On Wednesday, a delegation led by Panduranga Reddy, along with Telangana Jagruthi State Vice-President K. Srinivas, CH Vishnumurthy and Babu Rao, met HYDRA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath at his office and submitted a detailed complaint.
The complaint is based on grievances brought to the notice of MLC K. Kavitha during her “Jana Baata” tour in Ranga Reddy district on November 21 and 22. Residents reportedly narrated how several lakes in Maheshwaram and Rajendranagar Assembly constituencies had been encroached during the previous BRS regime.
During her tour, Ms. Kavitha reportedly received numerous complaints about land grabs by individuals allegedly linked to local MLAs. She is said to have criticised the large-scale encroachments and the loss of public water resources, prompting the Jagruthi leadership to escalate the matter to HYDRA.
Her decision to forward an official complaint on her letterhead has drawn attention in political circles, especially as she has recently been vocal about irregularities during the former government’s tenure. Analysts note that her increasing scrutiny of past corruption may indicate a strategic shift in her political approach.
Major encroachments listed in the complaint...

* Tummala Lake, located between Sardar Nagar and Mankhal villages, allegedly vanished after being encroached and converted into villa plots. The lake originally spanned 8 acres.
