BC Groups Stage Rasta Roko at Tank Bund, Demand Immediate Rollback of G.O. 46

Hyderabad (Same Day):
Leaders of the 42% BC Reservations Sadhana Samithi on Wednesday staged a rasta roko at the Ambedkar statue on Tank Bund, protesting against the reduction of Backward Classes’ reservations in gram panchayat elections. The leaders demanded that the State government immediately withdraw G.O. 46 and postpone the upcoming sarpanch elections.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Visharadhan Maharaj criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for what he termed as a “betrayal of the BC community.” He accused the government of issuing “unsubstantiated and poorly drafted” orders that had embarrassed the State in court. “By bringing G.O. 46, the Chief Minister has politically silenced the BCs and violated the spirit of the 42% BC reservation declaration,” he alleged.

BC Political Front chairman Balagouni Bal Raj Goud said that none of the assurances given during the Bharat Jodo Yatra had been fulfilled. He accused the Chief Minister of failing to initiate any concrete measures on the BC Bill, either in discussions with the Prime Minister or in Parliament. “Revanth Reddy has committed an unprecedented betrayal of the BCs. We will mobilise the community and intensify the agitation,” he warned.

State convener Aili Venkanna Goud demanded the immediate cancellation of G.O. 46 and postponement of the panchayat polls. He urged BC Ministers, MLAs, MPs, MLCs, and corporation chairpersons to resign and join the agitation. He alleged that the Chief Minister was functioning with a “caste-driven and authoritarian mindset.”

BC Political Front vice-chairman S. Durgaiah Goud stated that the Chief Minister had failed to uphold his promises and had consequently lost moral legitimacy to remain in office. “Revanth Reddy has pushed BCs into an educational, political, and employment crisis. He is unfit to continue even for a single day as Chief Minister,” he said.

Several leaders including Bairu Shekhar, Ambala Narayana Goud, Elikatla Vijay Kumar Goud, Singam Nageshwar Goud, Avvaru Venu, Raghavendra Mudiraj, Vinod Yadav, Ponnam Devaraj Goud, Mamatha Goud, Damodar Goud, Gaddamidi Vijay Kumar Goud, and Raju Goud participated in the protest.

Leaders of the 42% BC Reservations Sadhana Samithi, including Dr. Visharadhan Maharaj, Balagouni Bal Raj Goud and Aili Venkanna Goud, led the demonstration at the Ambedkar statue on Tank Bund.
