Telangana Urdu Academy Extends Deadline for Karnama Hayat Awards 2025 Applications
Hyderabad (Same Day): The Telangana Urdu Academy has extended the deadline for submitting applications for the “Karnama Hayat Awards” (Awards for Collective Services) for the year 2025. The awards are presented annually to honour the contributions of Urdu writers, scholars, poets, journalists, and other individuals who have rendered distinguished service in promoting Urdu language and literature.
Announcing the extension, Mr. Taher Bin Hamdan, President of the Telangana Urdu Academy, said that a total of seven awards will be presented this year under different categories. These include two awards in poetry — the Hazrat Amjad Hyderabadi Award and the Saeed Shahidi Award; the Dr. Mohiuddin Qadri Zor Award for criticism and research; the Dr. Agha Hyder Hasan Award for prose; the Professor Habeeb-ur-Rehman Award for education and teaching; the Mahaboob Hussain Jigar Award for journalism; and the Srinivas Lahoti Award for promotion of Urdu.
Each award carries a cash prize of ₹50,000, along with a citation and a memento. Mr. Hamdan noted that a committee of experts will select the awardees unanimously based on merit and contributions.
Applicants from Telangana who are engaged in promoting Urdu language and literature may submit their applications by October 30, 2025, the extended deadline. Submissions should include a photograph, complete biodata, bank details, Aadhaar photocopy, details of work in the promotion of Urdu, and supporting documentary evidence. Applications can be submitted either in person or by post at the Telangana Urdu Academy’s Head Office, located on the 4th Floor of the Hajj House, Nampally, Hyderabad.
Mr. Mohammed Safiullah, Director and Secretary of the Academy, said that applications must be made using the prescribed proforma available at the Academy office. He also clarified that applications received for the 2024 awards are still under consideration, and that individuals who have already received the award in previous years are ineligible to apply again. Separate applications are required for those wishing to apply in more than one category, he added.
