Journalists Should Relieve Mental Stress, Says Uppala Lakshman... JAAP committed to addressing journalists’ welfare issues
Chittoor (Same Day): Former member of the Press Council of India and founder of the Journalists Association of Andhra Pradesh (JAAP), Uppala Lakshman, has advised journalists to prioritise their mental health and reduce work-related stress. He was addressing the JAAP Chittoor and Tirupati district convention held at the Zilla Parishad Conference Hall on Sunday.
The meeting was presided over by JAAP State President Ravi Teja and organised under the supervision of State Secretary Lakshmipathi.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lakshman noted that “many journalists are facing severe mental and physical strain due to professional pressure, which is leading to health issues such as heart attacks.” He urged every journalist to obtain health insurance and said that JAAP has been actively working for the welfare and safety of journalists across Andhra Pradesh.
He lauded Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for being sympathetic towards journalists’ welfare and recalled Information Minister Parthasarathy’s announcement regarding the allotment of housing plots to eligible journalists. He also stressed that journalists must never compromise on ethical values while performing their duties.
Addressing the gathering, NUJ(I) National Vice President V. Rajender Nath said that journalists can resolve their problems effectively if they remain united. He reminded the audience that representations have been made to Union Ministers and MPs seeking 50% railway concession passes for working journalists.
JAAP State General Secretary Suryanarayana Reddy stated that the association is committed to ensuring justice for journalists through union representation. “We are consistently working to address issues faced by reporters and correspondents across the state,” he said.
JAAP State Vice President Ramachandra Reddy urged the Central Government to consider toll fee exemptions or discounts for accredited journalists at toll gates.
BJP and TDP leaders who attended the meeting assured their support for initiatives aimed at the welfare of journalists.
The convention was attended by a large number of journalists from Chittoor and Tirupati districts, including Bhanu Prasad, Vijayanagaram Satyanarayana, Sunil, Madala Venkateswarlu, Nagendra Yadav, Subba Reddy, Bharat Bhushan Reddy, and S. Venkateswarlu.
