Hyderabad (Same Day): The Telangana government issued orders
approving the implementation of the free fish seed distribution scheme for the financial year 2025–26. The scheme, which has been in operation for several years, aims to support the livelihood of fishermen across the State.

As per the orders, the government has allocated ₹122 crore for the procurement and distribution of 90 crore fish seedlings. The Fisheries Department has been directed to complete the tender process by the end of this month and finalise suppliers by September 15.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Mettu Saikumar, Chairman of the Telangana Fisheries Corporation, said that the scheme has played a significant role in enhancing fish production and improving the income levels of traditional fishing communities.

“This initiative not only promotes sustainable aquaculture but also ensures economic support to thousands of families dependent on inland and coastal fisheries,” Mr. Saikumar said.

The Fisheries Department is expected to coordinate with local bodies and fishermen's cooperative societies to ensure the timely and efficient distribution of the seedlings.
