Mughal Descendant Prince Tucy Congratulates Zohran Mamdani on Electoral Victory


Hyderabad (Same Day): His Royal Highness Prince Yakub Habeebuddin Tucy, a direct descendant of the Mughal emperors of India, has extended his congratulations to Zohran Mamdani, the Indian-American legislator, on his recent victory in the primary elections in New York City. In a formal statement, Prince Tucy lauded Mamdani for his “historic victory in the primary election and a well-run campaign,” further expressing his wishes for “success in November and beyond,” alluding to the upcoming 2025 New York City mayoral election.

Prince Tucy, who has been active in heritage and interfaith dialogue initiatives, highlighted the significance of Mamdani’s political journey for Muslim communities worldwide. “The world Muslim community stands with you,” he said, calling the Assemblyman’s electoral success a “moment of pride for Muslims and the Indian diaspora globally.” Mamdani, who is of Indian-Ugandan heritage, made history in 2020 by becoming one of the first South Asian and Muslim Americans elected to the New York State Assembly. Representing Astoria, Queens, he has emerged as a prominent progressive voice, often advocating for housing rights, police reform, and immigrant justice.

His recent primary victory, seen as a political upset over an establishment-backed candidate linked to the Cuomo political legacy, has positioned him as a rising figure in New York City’s political landscape.
