Asaduddin Owaisi to Address Protest in Raichur Against Waqf Amendment Bill...
Raichur (Same Day): All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President, Hyderabad MP, Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi, is scheduled to address a protest meeting in Raichur on Tuesday, June 24, against the proposed amendments to the Waqf Act. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium.
The protest meeting is being organised by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), which has expressed strong reservations over the Waqf Amendment Bill, terming it detrimental to the autonomy and functioning of Waqf institutions across the country.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the protest, AIMPLB representatives said the Bill, if enacted, would “centralise powers” and undermine the role of state waqf boards. They argue that the amendments would facilitate “encroachment and misuse” of Waqf properties by diluting long-standing protections.
Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi, known for his strong opposition to the proposed legal changes, is expected to highlight constitutional concerns surrounding the legislation and mobilise public support for its withdrawal.
The event is expected to draw participants from various districts of Karnataka, with community leaders urging peaceful and democratic expression of dissent. Security arrangements have been put in place by local authorities to ensure that the gathering proceeds without incident.
